Store History & Background:
Woolworths opened in Yorkshire Street Rochdale on 23rd July 1927 and was extended on 23rd April 1938. It was modernised in 1966, reopening on 16th November. The company joined a redevelopment scheme in the 1970s which saw the store close on 31st January 1976 and re-open on the redeveloped shopping centre site still in Yorkshire Street on 28th September 1977. The new store was larger and more modern than the old and boasted a large food hall. The food hall was removed in 1986 when the store converted to the comparison format. It was refurbished in 1993, reopening on 16th September and was updated to the latest 10/10 specification after demerger. |
