Store History & Background:
Woolworths opened in Spurriergate, York on 25th October 1924 and extended on 2nd November 1929 and again on 21st November 1957. It was fully modernised in 1972 and was a prototype Woolworths Weekend (comparison format store) during the Dixons takeover battle in 1986, reopening on 16th May. The store was refurbished again in 1993 to include a special Terry's of York shop within a shop.
