Copyright protection ...

Appearance of material in the website does not guarantee that it is available for onward publication. The site is offered for research and academic purposes only. It is not available to the general public. User IDs and passwords are private to individual users and governed by Woolworths' Information Security policy.

Some of the video material are subject to third-party copyright (e.g. BBC tv, Getty Images etc); where this is the case it is clearly identified as "For Private Viewing Only. They charge hefty fees for public use and require information about number of copies or viewers, intended period of circulation and whereabouts in the production it appears. Typically the lowest fee for limited publication of a small image from these third parties exceeds £250. Please don't risk it, ask if in doubt.

Composite Images         An example composite image showing how our Home ranges changed between 1879 and 2007. This is composed of four different images 'photoshopped' together

For continuity purposes both this site and the Virtual Museum contain composite pictures that have been digitally enhanced or altered. This technique is very helpful when trying to show how ranges have changed over time, but can result in more than one copyright image appearing in the same picture and a new copyright in the overall composition.

We have not altered any pictures showing people who are identified, with the exception of pseudo-colouring certain early images originally shot in black and white.
